BELIZE

Geography

The Belize is located to the north east of Guatemala, close the Yucatan Peninsula in the south of Mexico. Historically known as British Honduras, its official language is English, but nowadays a mixture of Spanish, Maya, Garifuna and Creole is spoken. One of Belize’s major attractions is that before its coast the second largest coral barrier reef can be found. This reef is easily accessed and a true paradise for snorkelers and scuba divers. It is an archipelago consisting of various islands, the most famous being Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, and to the south of Belize the attractive town Placencia is found, which offers beautiful beaches and many options of water sports activities including snorkel and fishing.

Belize was formally occupied by the Maya and several archeological sites, such as Xunantunich, Caracol, Altun Ha, and Lamanai, are witnesses to the antique presence of the Maya and can be visited today.

From Flores we can arrange different options of tours and/or travel extensions so that you can discover the great natural diversity of Guatemala's neighboring country.
