Antigua Guatemala was founded in the early 16th Century and largely destroyed by the earthquake in 1773 but its principal monuments are still preserved as ruins. The city was built 1,500 m above sea level surrounded by three fabulous volcanoes. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
Antigua Guatemala is a lovely City with a rich architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries. You will be able to visit its monuments while you are taking a walking tour.
